Legend of Zelda fans we have a title for the new Wii game; Skyward Sword. At the top of Nintendo's Press Conference at E3 was Legend of Zelda gameplay. With none other than the Godfather of Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto making an appearance to show off how motion plus is going to change the way we think about gaming.
While the gameplay video won't be online for awhile I will make sure it goes up when available. Mostly it involved a lot of fail on Miyamoto's part. A lot of people watching the livestream seemed unimpressed. But I look at this way. It's still in development so it will take some time.
The mechanics really interest me. You get the 1 to 1 movement for swordplay that motion plus has promoted. That's interesting, but you now control your shield with the nun-chuck attachment. Other innovations include controlling a new weapon, a whip to easily kill groups of Keese. And my favorite, you can now roll bombs with a very natural motion.
Unfortunately the new game won't be out until 2011. Creating good games takes time and despite some of the problems with the presentation I'm still excited about the new game. I remember the more than a decade wait between Link (Legend of Zelda II) and Ocarina of Time. Was it worth it? Yes, Ocarina changed the franchise and showed the power of 64. Still the most beloved Legend of Zelda by gamers it made a deep impact and I think Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has that sort of potential as well.
What did you think of Nintendo's E3 Conference? What are your first impressions of the new Wii Legend of Zelda game; Skyward Sword?

I guess everyone's expectations are super high for the new technology. But it takes time to develop good games. I think after today when people get out on the floor we will be able to get a better impression of what the game is going to be like.
I can't believe they are releasing a new Goldeneye. And it will be out in time for the holidays! Even if it's not a leap in advancement it sure will be a ton of multi-player fun!
I think that what's great about LOZ is that even the worst game introduces a new mechanic. Even The Adventure of Link introduced Magic to the series. The whip looks really interesting and should make rupee grinding in tall grass a lot easier. It's also nice to see it take out Keese so easily, they get annoying quickly. Especially just using a sword. I'm hoping we'll have the boomerang and hookshot in this one.
Motion plus with a boomerang could be interesting.
