Apple had a company press conference today, July 16th, to announce that their company will be providing a free protective case to buyers of their latest phone, the iPhone 4. It has been speculated that there might be a recall due to many problems with the new phone, the main one being of the phone dropping calls if held at certain angles. The Apple iPhone 4 has received poor reviews and Consumer Reports refused to recommend it. This report, from Consumer Reports, might be what triggered the offer of the free cases to consumers.
Steve Jobs announced this today in Cupertino, California- the company's headquarters. Those that have bought or will buy the iPhone 4 are eligible but have to do this before September.
Jobs admitted to the press that Apple isn't perfect, and phones aren't perfect. Jobs reported that only a little over 5 of every 1000 users have complained about this problem. According to PC World, Apple sold over 3 million iPhone 4s in the first three weeks. Jobs was quoted saying, "According to figures from AppleCare, the company's help desk, 0.55 percent of iPhone users have called to report antenna or reception problems."

Personally, I refuse to buy anything until all the bugs have been ironed out. I just got an iPod touch, as others ran after ipads.
