An announcement by NASA has ignited rumors of alien life. Is an announcement of alien life now imminent? NASA has scheduled a press conference for 2 P.M. Thursday. Will NASA be revealing that there is alien life out there or will it be a press conference about a totally different subject?
The rumor of alien life being found started on Monday, when NASA announced that it will hold a press conference Thursday to discuss new findings. The new findings will supposedly impact our long search for extraterrestrial life. Participants in the press conference will include several scientists involved in the hunt for life beyond Earth, as well as researchers studying extreme forms of life on our own planet.
The NASA press conference will mainly discuss a study being published at 2 p.m. Thursday in the journal Science. The research is embargoed until then, meaning that no one can see it until it is released. Under the embargo system, some science journalists get an advance look at papers, under the agreement that they will not reveal the findings until the research is published.

While the announcement is vague in its description of the press conference topic, it most likely is not going to be announcing alien life. Maybe scientists have found that some planets can host alien life or something along those lines. To scientists, that may be big news that requires a press conference, but to regular people it's just another scientific fact. The public wants something exciting to be announced, so maybe we'll be surprised and NASA will announce there is alien life. Then what? We will all run screaming in panic? We'll just have to wait and see.
