You wouldn't think it would be hard to find just the right app for your iPhone, but with 425,000 apps already on the market and more being released all the time, it's easy to overlook some of the best. Now an Australian software company called Filter Squad has released an iPhone app that makes searching for new apps fun, easy, and fast. It's called Discovr Apps, and it works by creating an interactive application "tree" that illustrates the relationships between applications as you search.

Sound complicated? It's not. In fact, Mashable reports that Discovr Apps' visual representation provides a faster and more intuitive experience than searching through the App Store the old-fashioned way. Click on any of the apps shown on the "tree," and watch as new branches sprout with new, related suggestions. "Pinch" the screen and you can zoom in or out. One more click, and you can read their descriptions or go directly to the App Store to make a purchase. A YouTube video provides a preview of the new app in action.

Zooming out permits expanded searches.
Will the new Discovr Apps iPhone app revolutionize the way people shop? Probably not, except for those rare instances when one must search through thousands of choices. A more interesting idea would be to apply the same "click and pinch" approach to other types of searches. Imagine, for example, using it to find just the right quote in the collected works of Shakespeare, or exactly the right schematic from the repair manual of a stealth bomber. The possibilities are mind-boggling. Discovr Apps is available now from Apple for just 99 cents.
