Included in a new patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops, Express mode allows hardcore players to compete online in faster-paced matches. The patch appeared for download on Xbox 360 Sunday morning, with a Playstation 3 version still to come.
The Express multiplayer playlist cuts the wait between online matches in half, from 60 seconds in other playlists to a 30 second wait in the lobby between maps in Express. The playlist includes several game types that promote faster action and more kills. Team Deathmatch, Domination, Headquarters and Capture the Flag are in Express while popular but slower-paced game types like Search and Destroy are left out.
The mode also bans use of the Ghost and Second Chance perks. The Ghost perk allows gamers to remain undetected on radar and the Second Chance perk gives players the ability to keep fighting after taking more damage than would normally be needed to kill them. Many hardcore players within the Call of Duty online community complained that these perks were over-powered and unfair, so Express gives these fans the ability to play without worrying about those tactics.
Having appeared as a popular mode in the earlier installment Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Express playlist is not new to the video game series but this is its first appearance in Black Ops. Express mode also gives players that had grown tired of the game something new to enjoy while they wait for the November 8th release date of the next sequel, Modern Warfare 3.
The Black Ops Express patch also includes support for the Rezurrection Zombies mode DLC expansion pack, coming to Xbox Live August 23rd. The patch will appear on Playstation 3 between now and the September release of the Rezurrection pack for PS3.
Also included in the patch is a playlist for playing all DLC maps, which replaces the Annihilation playlist that only included the previous downloadable map pack.
