Gary Hudston wanted a unique way to propose to his girlfriend Stephy. He found it via a customized game of Portal 2. For the past five years the couple has dated, Hudston had always promised a geeky but unique proposal for his girlfriend.
The unique Portal 2 engagement happened with help from GLaDOS (the game's voice) and Valve Software (the video game maker). In fact, at the end of the three-modded levels of the game, she is the one who actually popped the question for Gary Hudston.
The groom-to-be gave his girlfriend the special version of the game for her 21st birthday. He said:
I surprised her with the mod after she was done opening her presents. She was confused at first, but played along as she knew I was clearly up to something. She tells me that it crossed her mind that it might be a proposal, but she decided that she was getting ahead of herself and that it was probably just an elaborate birthday gift. That was until she realized that GLaDOS was talking directly to her. From that point on she was quiet, save for some muttered disbelief and, by the time GLaDOS was asking her the question, she was in tears. When she looked over to me I was already on one knee with the ring. Also in tears.
It took a lot of planning and a lot of work for Hudston to pull off his Portal 2 engagement, but it worked out for him because, of course, Stephy said yes. The couple is planning to get married in September 2012.
Have you ever considered this type of outrageous proposal? While the groom in this case may not have gone as far as the groom who proposed with the surprise wedding last week, he still gave his fiancée an incredibly memorable story.
