Today, iPhone 4S preorders begin. And based on previous launches, sales activity could shut down the Apple site -- or worse -- cause out of stock issues. If you're in the market for an iPhone, now's the time to get yours.
Now that you're over the blues about not having an iPhone 5 release date, and you've all but waved off the Samsung Galaxy SII (2), here's your moment.
But hold on before you pull out your trusty Visa or MasterCard to claim your brand new Apple smart phone. According to CNET, meltdowns have happened in the past. Here's what you're up against:
iPhone 4S Preorders on Two Major Carriers -- at the Same Time?
And the crowd goes wild! Yes, say hello to Verizon and Sprint as both companies gear up for the ride of its life.
There's just no precedent on this kind of thing because it's never been done before. In the past, there was only AT&T. Now, you have choices, but that could only cloud things up.
Sprint began selling the iPhone 4 (you know the aging one you have now) Thursday, perhaps as a test to see if it can handle the surge in sales activity.
Now it gets a chance to flex its corporate muscle as iPhone 4S preorders are added to its sales mix. Good luck with that.
History is a Good Indicator if iPhone 4S Preorders are a Success or Not, Right?
AT&T has been there and done that, but even it experienced the preorder jitters. And no one saw it coming.
For example, when the iPhone 4 (say goodbye) made its début, both Apple and AT&T experienced an onslaught of Internet sales activity to the tune of 600K handhelds. Faced with the deluge of interest, the devices soon sold out!
Back in February, Verizon introduced its iPhone 4 version. And while the website experienced scattered slowdowns and outages, the company did well under pressure. However, after it reached its boiling point, Verizon suspended sales on the device. It was just that hot.
And with two new carriers, Verizon and Sprint, it would be a miracle if nothing crashed and a backlog did not occur (knock on wood).
Are you taking part in the iPhone 4S preorders frenzy? Or will you snap up the Samsung Galaxy S2? Even still, are you just waiting for the rumored iPhone 6? Good luck with that.
