The GTA V trailer 2011 edition arrived just recently to the delight of video game fans. However, one website has spotted a particular still shot from the trailer featuring a fake company name involving "Speedo." Will it bring a lawsuit against RockStar games?
The Grand Theft Auto games generally involve stealing cars, planes, boats and running amok through various fictional cities or towns. They have also included theme music from popular artists to set the time frame better. Now it appears they've integrated a popular clothing company's name. The website WhatCulture.com shows a still shot image of a man riding a jetski. That in itself is ok, and actually makes people giddy at the possibility of being able to ride on the watercraft in the new game. However, also on the picture is the name "SPEEDOPHILE 2000" on the jetski. Seems OK right?
The web report points out that the Federal Court of Australia ordered a blogger to take down many websites he had created. The reason behind it was that the domain names for the site had "Speedo" in them and were selling Speedo products. To make matters worse, several sites had ads for Speedo briefs right near pornographic images. The result of the legal action from Speedo was that the blogger could no longer use Speedo ads or their name with his sites. He also had to remove all of the "offending websites."
This news story on Rockstar Games and their upcoming title "Grand Theft Auto V" notes that the game isn't porn, although some may beg to differ. Previous installments of the game have involved strip clubs and even a hack to have virtual sex in the game. The website is now wondering if Speedo may take issue with Rockstar Games using their name in its video game title. Perhaps Speedo will see this as a better brand of advertising. Smart companies may want to start considering getting their products more integrated into video games, because the money made could be better than money spent on lawsuits.
Check out the GTA 5 official trailer video below? What do you think of Rockstar Games using "Speedo" as part of a jetski name in its video game? Should Speedo have issue with this or welcome the advertisement?
