You probably won't find Mark Zuckerberg partying in the Facebook nightclub, which recently opened in a town called Epitaciolândia, found between the borders of Brazil and Bolivia. It is an odd choice for a swanky nightclub, but the owner of the club doesn't seem to mind—nor does he mind swiping the name "Facebook" from the major social network.![]()
Reported by The Guardian, the founder—named Humbert Camacho—says this about the Facebook nightclub: "The Facebook concept is about sharing ideas, adventures, friendships, parties and photos with your friends. So what we wanted to do was to build a nightclub with this concept, where people could come and share things with their friends, spend a cool night, sharing pictures, experiences and have fun."
The club was opened to the public on Thursday, local bloggers already snapping photos of the entrance which bears the very familiar logo of Facebook as well as the distinctive blue-and-white color combination.
Facebook hasn't yet taken action, and in fact are rather surprised there is a nightclub out there with their name. "Is it really in the Amazon?" Facebook was reported in reply.
As The Next Web writes, the club shares nothing else with the social network. There is no Facebook Page (as of yet), or any other connection to social networking in general. The two are just sharing a name and a vision of sharing experiences.
Regardless, Facebook has been known to be touchy about their name in the past. In August of 2010, Facebook filed a lawsuit against Teachbook, which is a niche social network for teachers, for using "book" in their name, as reported by PC Mag.
Will the Facebook nightclub suffer a similar fate, or will people start seeing other bars named after social networks like Twitter and Google+?
