Not too long after a phony Pokémon game made it high on the Apple App Store, Nintendo announced an official addition to the beloved franchise (well, technically two additions). Did the App Store incident have anything to do with the announcement? And what "color" will the games be?
Over the weekend, news about a Black and White follow-up to the bread and butter RPG series started popping up. Later it was revealed that there will be two follow-ups: "Black 2 Version" and a "White 2 Version."
Some people are not fans of another set of "Black" and "White" titles and wanted another color like "Grey Version." Really? Grey? With past version names such as Red, Blue, Gold and Silver, Grey doesn't even fit. The franchise had history of re-using colors with the re-release of Pokémon Red and Green. (Green was in Japan originally while America got Blue and only got green during the re-release.)
This announcement of the two new games came about a week after the non-working unofficial app "Pokemon Yellow" was the number 2 paid app on the App Store. That may have triggered the announcement but the games themselves were most likely already in the works since it can take months to work on a new game. Either way the game will surely sell well.
Pokémon Black 2 and White come out in June in Japan. No date was set for the US, but they should make it there in time for the holidays.
