During this past week, a lot of Apple rumors have surfaced which have hinted to what the company has up its sleeve for the iPhone 5 release date and specs for the handset. Though everything surrounding this device is pure rumor at this point, it hasn't stopped Apple customers and fans from speculating what could be.
At this time, the launch date has not been concrete, but many speculate the handset will be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Though some expect the device will launch soon after, the more likely rumors point to the iPhone 5 release date being sometime in September or October 2012.
The rumor mill has churned out talk of a larger iPhone screen, which many believe will be around 4" vs. the current screen size of 3.5". The iPad 3 release had a clearer retina display screen than its predecessor, and its expected the next Apple smartphone will have screen improvements as well.
Apple may also be working on a new home button for the device, or to be more specific, the lack of a physical home button entirely. Recent rumors suggest Apple may be working on touchscreen alternatives to the physical Home button. A button-free iPhone? Sounds interesting!

Information has also been circling that Apple may be working on a 3D iPhone 5 and may be planning on using Liquidmetal technology for the next Apple smartphone. These rumors surfaced thanks to Apple having both placed a job posting for a 3D guru on their website, and having previously acquired Liquidmetal Technologies.
While most are aware what 3D would mean for the handset, Liquidmetal may be a bit of a mystery. It would actually allow for a thinner, lighter device which would be impact resistant, and therefore reduce damage should the handset be dropped. A good feature for the clumsy smartphone user.
Which rumors do you think are possible for the iPhone 5 release date? Will the handset début in June, and launch in September? Is a 3D Apple mobile device likely? What about Liquidmetal for the handset? Has Apple come that far yet?
