Today, there was a new life event one could check off on their timeline on Facebook: organ donor. And while most people's initial response was that the change was a joke or a spoof, it seems that Mark Zuckerberg and crew are serious when asking people whether they would like to identify themselves as organ donors in their online profiles.
Also as a part of the designation, the user is able to choose whether or not to share a story about why they chose to become an organ donor, likely an emotional area for those who made the choice based upon the loss or near loss of a loved one.
To change your own Facebook organ donor status, you can choose the Health & Wellness option on your timeline, and then add your own status. There is also information on how to register in your state available in the status change area.
What do you think of Facebook recognizing organ donation as a life event? Do you think it could potentially bring a new level of awareness and thought to the process, and perhaps even sway those who had yet to designate or who were on the fence?
