It's no longer a rumor, The Elder Scrolls won't stay a single-player focused series as it's slated as an online offering for the masses soon. Elder Scrolls is not a new game, but what is new is it's an up and coming online presence that will allow multiple players.
With the official word that this is a go, details are few. The details won't become available until Game Informer Magazine hits the stands next week. Zenimax Online Studios worked on getting this game online for several years now.
The guy who brought you Dark Age of Camelot, Matt Firor, is at the helm of this new project slated to happen next year. According to Geek.com, "The events will center around 'daedric prince Molag Bal' with the environment spanning the whole of Tamriel a millennium before 'Skyrim's' storyline occurs."
Tomorrow, May 4th, Game Informer is releasing a teaser video in the morning and a screenshot of the game later on during the day.
