It seems those Amazon Kindle Fire 2 release date rumors are beginning to heat up again, due to recent upgrades by the company to its services. However, the tech world is waiting to see if the new generation tablet can compete with the other major players. Those include the recent Google Nexus 7, and the likely iPad Mini, which is also coming soon.
The new Kindle Fire will certainly have its work cut out for it, as Amazon will have really needed to make some improvements to its first tablet entry. The Google Nexus 7 has already been selling out and is considered much more of a success for its size. It basically makes the original Kindle Fire look like a Palm Pilot from years ago. With that in mind, will Amazon be ready to compete, or will they decide to just go away from this particular battle?
It's highly unlikely Jeff Bezos and company are going away anytime soon. So that means there is a high probability that a newer and improved Kindle tablet will be available for Christmas 2012. According to Books & Review website, some recent upgrades and updates to the Amazon Cloud Player indicates that the new tablet could be on the way.
One important upgrade comes in the form of a "scan-and-match digital music service." It will basically look at an Amazon customer's iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries, and match all of the applicable songs to those that Amazon has in its current music catalog. The matched songs will be upgraded for free to 256kbps audio, and available in the customer's Cloud Player for instant access. Not a bad idea. However, the service will only match 250 songs for free, until they start charging $24.99 per year to store up to 250,000 music files.
So there's a catch, but this makes it clear that Amazon is looking to compete. Apple iTunes is currently the leader in the digital music space, but Amazon has shown it is looking to compete in terms of technology. Amazon has become the leader in digital books, but may have to worry about customers who would rather use their Kindle services on the Nexus 7, or iPad.
However, it's being reported that the Kindle Fire 2 release date will happen before the holiday season. While some had expected a late July announcement, that did not happen. With these recent upgrades and improvements being made though, it seems the new release date is imminent, and Amazon is refusing to back from a bigtime fight in the tablet market.
When do you think the Amazon Kindle Fire 2 will be released? Are you planning to purchase a new Fire, or waiting for the new iPad?
